Proteins
What are proteins?
Proteins are long chains of amino acids. There are thousands of different proteins in the body. They. provide all sorts of functions to help us survive.
Functions of proteins
Proteins are providing structure, regulating body processes, transporting materials, balancing fluids, helping with immunity, and providing energy
Structure of proteins
Proteins are macromolecules.
Contain the elements carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen
The shape, size, and hence function of a protein are determined by its amino acid composition and sequence.
1-Primary Structure
2-Secondary Structure
3-Tertiary Structure
4-Quaternary Structure
Important Points
They're 20 amino acids that differ in the structure of (R group). Amino acids is made up of 3 parts ( amino group , R group and carboxyl group)
There are many many different proteins because the number of sequence of amino acids.
Proteins have structure functioning - enzymes are proteins - some hormones are proteins .we need proteins to stay healthy and its needed for growth and repair of body tissues .
We should eat 75-100% grams daily of proteins to stay healthy
